The Nature of Things<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Rainstorm,
\nThe Wind,
\nThe Volcano,
\nShe howled.<\/p>\n

And the salt rivers flowed
\naway from their blue-green beginnings
\nslowly, ever so slowly, hesitating,
\nand
\ngradually, glistening, gainingwithconfidence
\ncarved a crooked channel and
\ndripped
\ndripped
\ndripped
\nonto a stark concrete mouth.<\/p>\n

And the howling wind whipped
\na straggly cat o’ ninetails
\nher sandy hair. Slashing and lashing
\nabout the stone face.
\nTight set her jaw, gnashing and gnashing.<\/p>\n

Her voice an eruption
\ncrackled, sizzling, smoldering
\nuntil SUDDENLY
\nthe pressure, quaking, BLASTING, Booming
\n(bursting the bonds of sensibility and prudence)
\nexploded forth.laced with desperation,
\n“But don’t you understand that I love you?!”<\/p>\n

“To understand that you love me,
\nI must first understand love.
\nThat is the nature of things,” said he.<\/p>\n

And calmly, quickly, quietly closed the door.<\/p>\n

Thud.<\/p>\n
